I’m going to keep talking about
ssstein today,
and this item is a top 3 contender
on my list of must-haves for the 26AW season
(in my biased opinion).
It's a formidable piece.
Whether looking at this season’s ssstein or
other brands as well,
I honestly feel like this might be
one of the best seasons ever,
with so many pieces that personally resonate with me.
Among them, this item
really stood out in a unique way.
The blouson I introduced yesterday
was also quite good.
But for me personally, this is even better.
If anything, even among the various items
ssstein has offered up until now,
I feel like this might be
the best one yet.
The item that has completely captured my heart is…

When you choose clothes,
what criteria do you use?
Design, comfort, and so on—
I think there are many factors
to consider when choosing.
I could just say my intuition whispered to me
the moment I saw these items in the runway photos,
but there are actually very solid reasons
for it as well.
When you unpack those reasons,
you arrive at the concept for this season’s ssstein:
“Emotions in every scene of daily life.”
About half a year ago, in a vlog video
of the 26AW exhibition posted on
Kento-san’s YouTube channel,
the designer, Asakawa-san,
spoke about this tweed check.
This season focuses on human emotions—not so much
spur-of-the-moment feelings, but rather the atmosphere
that drifts from relationships built over many years
or places and landscapes you’ve been around for a long time.
It expresses the complex shifts in emotion
that can be felt from those things,
and it is clearly reflected in these items.
The inspiration for this fabric came from an elderly couple
enjoying a meal at a restaurant.
It was the jacket the grandfather was wearing—
one he had clearly been cherishing for years.
To someone else, it might just look like
a “worn-out jacket.”
But for him, it is a garment he has spent
many years of his life with.
Wearing it, washing it, and wearing it again.
The texture created by spending such a long time together—
that isn’t just mere age; I believe it’s the charm that comes
precisely because time has been layered upon it.
While it is British and carries a sense of weight,
it isn’t just classic.
It has a deeper atmosphere that can’t be summed up
merely by the word “mode.”
That is what this tweed has.
It exudes a British, heavy atmosphere—
an item that is more “deep” than “mode.”
The tweed fabric is woven from high-quality merino wool
based on traditional, classic British patterns from
the UK’s MOON company, giving off an authentic feel.
The ability to use this fabric came only because
ssstein has made a name for itself worldwide
and expanded the breadth of its expression.
This double-breasted peak lapel jacket
features more room in the sleeves and width
compared to conventional jackets.
Why go for this specific sizing?
This is just my own theory, but
the reason it differs from the conventional model
might be related to the background of
the “grandfather’s jacket” that served as inspiration.
Perhaps it was a jacket he had tailored when he was young—
a jacket that fit perfectly back then, but as he aged
and his body changed little by little,
the jacket that once fit just right
eventually started to feel oversized.
Instead of letting it go just because it didn’t fit anymore,
it changed along with him to be where it is today.
I find myself imagining that kind of story
from this oversized silhouette.
I’m letting my imagination run wild,
and this nerd is getting excited, haha.
But being able to imagine the time and people
in the background of a single piece of clothing—
that might be the biggest reason
why I’m drawn to this item.
On the runway, they paired the jacket with denim,
but you can also choose it as a setup
with the matching pants!
The “LONG WIDE TROUSERS” shape that we all love
is a surefire choice.
You can also use it as a standalone piece
to add an accent to your autumn/winter styling.
By the way, since you can put together coats and blousons
with this same tweed fabric, if there’s anyone out there
brave enough to pick up the 4-piece set,
I’ll take you out for dinner, haha.
