Hello! I'm Haru, a fashion geek!
This "fashion-obsessed diary" of mine,
which started out so casually,
is finally approaching a full year this month.
I feel like it flew by in the blink of an eye,
yet because it’s become such a part of my daily life,
it also feels like it’s been longer.
I’ve loved clothes since I was young,
and I feel so grateful to have a place where I can share
the charm of clothing as I see it,
as well as the unique merits of specific items,
in my own clumsy words.
It makes me so happy when customers tell me at the shop every day that they look forward to reading this blog.
I want to keep this blog going,
and share the charm of fashion with as many people as possible,
helping them turn their everyday lives into something special.
I hope to continue this blog
as a place that reaches as many people as possible
with that spark to transform the mundane into the extraordinary.
And so, the item I'm introducing today
is one that I felt so strongly about when I first started,
an item I once spoke about, and now it’s back!!
I’m going to talk about this item again,
reflecting the "current" vibe and my own thoughts!
Without further ado, that item is,
OVERCOAT
-Oversized MA-1 Bomber Jacket-
col.HEATHER GREY
col.BLACK
This item was proposed by OVERCOAT last season
and became a huge hit at sign, selling out immediately.
I was so shocked and captivated by its coolness
that I abused my position to get one for myself—
I can honestly say it’s the #1 bomber jacket in history.
When I heard it was coming back this season
along with the popular BLACK colorway,
plus a new "HEATHER GREY" version,
I was honestly pretty excited, haha.
Even though I bought one in a different fabric,
this new HEATHER GREY is just too good!!!
There are countless bomber jackets out there in the world,
but this one manages to coexist in perfect balance:
a graceful, elegant appearance while still retaining
the rugged, military uniqueness of the item.
HEATHER GREY carries a nuance that
simply cannot be expressed in BLACK.
I’m sure you know all about OVERCOAT
since I’ve mentioned it on the blog so many times,
but it’s a brand perfectly described as
"ready-to-wear that feels like haute couture."
They select high-quality fabrics that even world-class brands use,
combined with years of experience, masterful pattern-making, sewing techniques,
and the designs of Mr. Daimaru.
By layering these elements,
I believe products are born that transcend the label of mere "clothing."
Rather than just reproducing the history and techniques of fashion
that have been passed down for centuries,
they make us feel what we need "right now."
This "now" can refer to trends,
or the state of society and our values—the world is full of things that shape "the now."
Because it contains something that only we, living in this "now," can sense,
I truly believe OVERCOAT items have the power to turn the everyday into something special.
It’s no wonder that a bomber jacket proposed by OVERCOAT
would be more than just "good."
Because they have a sharp eye on "the now,"
you can truly feel the garment-making technology that is possible only in "the now."
They deconstruct tailoring through a modern approach,
incorporating tailoring techniques not typically found in bomber jackets.
For instance, the arms are constructed using jacket-specific forward-pitching techniques;
instead of attaching the sleeves straight down,
they are pitched forward from the start,
eliminating restriction when worn,
reducing wrinkles, and creating a beautiful silhouette.
Furthermore, the pattern work, which includes a yoke like a dress shirt,
forms a structural shoulder line.
This subdues the rounded volume characteristic of an MA-1 or other bomber jackets,
giving a sleek and sophisticated look
despite it being a casual item.
It looks powerful on those with a sturdy build,
and even on a thin build like mine, it naturally conforms to the body,
changing its silhouette to suit the person wearing it.
This isn't just about making it oversized—
I believe it only succeeds because of the precise pattern design.
Of course, it’s not just the pattern; they are also committed to the materials,
using Super 120’s class wool.
By brushing both sides,
it creates a smooth texture and soft luster on both the inside and outside.
While retaining casual bomber jacket elements like the oversized silhouette and thick ribbed cuffs,
they blend in tailoring techniques and a luxurious material feel.
And another thing I personally find interesting
is that OVERCOAT is based in New York.
Because it’s a brand based in New York,
a city that makes you feel both the powerful, underground street culture
and the glittering, luxurious glamour.
Things that seem like polar opposites at first glance
are mixing together in the same city.
As a fashion geek, I’m thrilled to interpret this bomber jacket
as a single piece that captures that New York atmosphere
and expresses it as clothing, haha.
There is a goodness that I only understand because I actually bought and wore it last season,
but after seeing this season’s HEATHER GREY,
I’ve discovered a new charm all over again.
By running a classic item like a "bomber jacket"
through the filter of OVERCOAT,
they ’ve managed to make it look so fresh
and so beautiful.
Please, do yourself a favor and try it on at least once!
