Hello! I’m Haru, a total clothing geek!!
To start off, I’d like to introduce today’s featured item:
The cashmere knit from yonetomi!
The reason I’m mentioning it right away is that
I first came across this item over six months ago,
and I wanted to share some of that backstory with you too.
yonetomi
-RIGID CASHMERE SWEATER P/O-
col.GREY
col.BLACK
col.BROWN
Even under the label of "cashmere knit,"
this is something entirely different from the cashmere knits
I’ve introduced before.
While it is a cashmere knit,
the fabric feel is not what you’d expect from cashmere.
Thankfully, I had the chance to accompany the team
to the yonetomi exhibition.
The venue was lined with various color variations of knits
expressed through yonetomi’s high-level techniques,
and honestly, I overlooked the display of GREY, BLACK, and BROWN
at first because it didn’t immediately catch my eye.
As I was listening to the brand representatives
explain various items,
they introduced the cashmere knit,
and just as I thought,
“Oh, it’s a basic color because it’s made of cashmere,”
I felt the fabric of the knit...
I was shocked!!
It had a texture I’d never felt before in a cashmere knit—
it was crisp and firm, more like a sweatshirt than a knit.
I asked the representative,
“How can it be cashmere but feel like this?”
They explained that by knitting it to the absolute limit,
they achieved a character not found in conventional cashmere knits.
Moreover,
the reason wasn't just to make a knit with a rare firmness for cashmere—
this item is a knit that actually improves and grows in character the more you wear it.
A knit that grows as you wear it??
It’s not often you hear that about knitwear,
but this piece can actually be washed—and in fact,
you can enjoy watching it soften and change its expression
as you wash it over time!

When I first heard that, I thought, “What?! That’s insanely interesting!!”
I had dismissed it as just a basic knit at first,
but my feelings did a total 180.
The yonetomi exhibition had a calm, mature atmosphere,
so I do regret that a suddenly over-excited clothing geek might have been a bit of an odd sight in the venue, haha.
I actually got to see a knit that a brand member had been wearing for a year,
and it had completely transformed from its new state; the sweatshirt-like firmness was gone, and the texture had become that of a lived-in knit.
A knit that changes every time you wear it is
already interesting enough, but
actually, the "GREY" version has a slightly different character.

The reason is that
it uses undyed yarn,
leveraging the natural color of the cashmere itself.
Because it isn’t dyed, the fabric has a stronger, crisper feel
compared to the BLACK and BROWN ones!
If you’re a clothing lover, you can’t help but love an item like this—
one that makes the most of the inherent charm of cashmere
and allows you to enjoy the aging process.
Because the design is basic, the potential of the material
is fully realized.
It’s a piece made possible only because "yonetomi" is a factory brand
that handles everything from material development to production in-house.
How it changes depends entirely on you, the wearer,
so you get to enjoy your very own unique knit.
A new frontier for knitwear.
Please, give it a try!
