Hello! It’s Haru, the clothing geek!!
Today’s blog marks my 32nd entry.
It feels profound to think that I’ve been
writing this "Clothing Idiot’s Diary" for nearly a month.
I enjoy writing the blog every day,
but I spend each day through trial and error,
thinking about how I can best convey the allure of clothing.
I spend as much time thinking about it as a manga artist
who just won a weekly serialization, haha.
Although this is still just a milestone,
the only reason I’ve been able to keep this up
is thanks to all of you who say things like
"I read it every day!" or "It's interesting,"
which really helps keep my motivation high.
Honestly, I never thought I’d be writing
something every single day like this,
and since I’ve never really been the type
to stick with something consistently before,
I’m really happy that I’ve been able to
keep this up for so long.
Even though this blog is a bit like the mutterings
of a fashion fool,
I realize once again that it’s only because
there are "all of you" out there I want to share this with
that I’m able to keep going.
I don’t know how much longer
this blog will continue,
or what form it might take,
but I hope to continue sharing the charm of clothing in my own way.
Speaking of taking on new forms,
the brand I’m introducing today
has been long-loved at sign
and has started a new chapter this season.
That brand is "calmanthology."
Today, I’d like to introduce a certain pair of shoes
from calmanthology.
calmanthology
-EMARUIRA-
As I mentioned when I introduced the
"EDS SHOES" before,
starting this season,
CALMANTHOLOGY has shifted from their "pege." line
to a line inspired by a coined term
created by designer Mr. Kaneko,
and the name of this collection is
"EMARUIRA."
“The space that overflows from the passion
brought forth by improvisation,
or its fragrance, flickering, and transience.”
The curtain has risen on a one-of-a-kind creation
conceived by designer Makoto Kaneko, meaning exactly that,
and these items spin a tale different from the
previous "pege."
Words inherently "contain meaning,"
and we use them daily based on our
situations and emotions at the time.
However,
by basing this collection on a coined term
Mr. Kaneko created,
beyond the literal meaning, there is an invisible depth,
and I feel that the way "EMARUIRA" is perceived
changes depending on the person listening.
Because there is no single correct answer,
I feel this word more deeply,
and I find myself imagining a story based on the sound of the word "EMARUIRA"
rather than its definition.
By doing that, I become immersed in the world view,
and as a geek, I interpret it not just as a pair of shoes to dress up an outfit,
but as something I can enjoy with the feeling of becoming a character in that story, haha.
The pair I’m introducing today
is an item that bears that very title.
The characteristic embroidered lines were designed by Mr. Kaneko
based on the emotions and passion he felt at the time;
they are fluid, yet because there is a clear vision,
the design conveys a duality of power
and delicacy.
Mr. Kaneko himself said it’s a piece that,
"While completely different from what I drew on paper,
turned into a form I am satisfied with."
The shoe shape is based on a theo-tie (a shoe without a tongue),
so you can enjoy wearing them barefoot or with designer socks.
During this time of year, you can wear colored socks
to enjoy them as an accent to your styling.
In the spring and summer, you can wear them casually
or with a more adult flair like sandals—it’s a pair
that lets you enjoy them in two different ways!
Also, the insole is a full-length design, providing a snug fit,
and despite the tongue-less construction,
they offer a stable, comfortable wear.
They possess both a feminine beauty and suppleness,
and when worn by men, they have a somewhat rugged
yet androgynous atmosphere that evokes the "space" (ma)
that EMARUIRA represents.
They utilize Kudu suede from the long-established
tannery CHARLES F. STEAD, based in Leeds, England,
founded in 1904.
It has a supple, soft texture like deer leather,
but also combines the durability and fiber density of cowhide,
providing a fit that feels like it’s wrapping around your feet.
calmanthology continues to evolve constantly
while staying close to our daily lives.
The new chapter "EMARUIRA" is filled with Mr. Kaneko’s
improvisation; it’s a collection that feels like a stage—passionate,
yet also possessing a profound sense of stillness.
I hope you all get a chance to encounter and experience
the world that calmanthology expresses.
