Hello! It’s Haru, a total clothing nerd!!
I hereby declare!
Starting today, I’m kicking off a three-day "Cardigan Appreciation Week," and I vow to introduce you to three carefully selected items!!
You might be wondering, "Where did this come from?"
Well, "knitwear" is currently the fastest-moving category in our store.
Among that, I wanted to focus on cardigans—one of the most versatile items that you can enjoy for many seasons to come.
The beauty of a cardigan is that it offers the same warmth as a sweater, and by adjusting what you wear underneath, you can enjoy it not only right now but well into early spring.
If you're wearing a graphic T-shirt, you can leave all the buttons open to show off the design—it’s an item that really expands your styling options!
Personally, while I love sweaters, I’m a huge fan of layering cardigans over shirts.
I find myself buying cardigans all the time, and I love them so much that one year I even bought six at once—it’s a devilish item that truly captivates us clothing lovers, haha.
At sign, we carry a wide range of these "devilish" items, but the one I’m introducing today is a bit different from your standard cardigan.
Let’s dive right in...
OUAT
-META KNIT-
From the signature "META KNIT" series by OUAT.
This season, it’s crafted using Spanish Merino—often called the ancestor of Merino wool—spun in the Catalonia region of Spain, making for a luxurious and contemporary piece.
Because the crimp is finer than standard Merino, it has great loft and body, and it’s blended with acrylic to increase its bulk and help it hold its shape.
It’s definitely a bit of a curveball as far as cardigans go, but it’s packed with that distinct OUAT flair.
You can wear it on its own like a blouson, or use it as an inner layer where it still holds its own presence. It also has thumbholes, so you can let them peek out from your sleeves as a subtle accent.
"Exploring valuable clothing that can become vintage decades from now."
That’s the mission statement of OUAT, and the items they aim for aren't just focused on today's trends—they are pieces meant to remain truly valuable over time.
The signature metallic buttons on the front of this "META KNIT" have been updated to a groundbreaking design that allows the garment to be opened and closed regardless of which side is in front.
In an era where we are increasingly sensitive to genderless and male/female expressions, I see this as one answer to that issue from a fashion perspective. As a nerd, I interpret this as a piece that truly has the potential to become vintage wear.
I’ll be honest: the design of this piece is quite eccentric, and I understand that some people might find it difficult to pull off.
If you look at the general market, there are so many simple, easy-to-grab cardigans, but if you asked me if those will remain valuable pieces of clothing decades from now, I’d say no.
Clothing from any era was initially met with resistance by the masses, but over time, it gradually blended in until it became a part of everyday life.
For example, when AirPods were first released a few years ago, everyone mocked them, calling them "noodles hanging from ears," but now, if you walk down the street, one in every two people has those "noodles" hanging down—humans are creatures easily swayed by popular opinion.
And I’m no exception, haha.
Choosing items with a "sure-fire" design is one way to go, but I think it’s okay to take the scenic route once in a while to find the right answer.
Even if it doesn’t click for nine out of ten people, if I can get even one person to think, "I want to try wearing that" or "I want to see it in person," then I’ve done my job.
In tomorrow’s blog, I’ll be introducing a cardigan you can wear daily.
Stay tuned!
